Psychosocial and supportive care oncology professionals from across Canada are working together to improve access to online resources for cancer patients and their families. The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer has supported one of these initiatives: pilot professionally led online support groups. Online support and discussion groups allow people to connect with others who are going through similar experiences. They provide a private and secure place to share support and information. From the comfort of home, you can join online with a group of 6-8 others and an oncology counselor. Groups meet weekly at scheduled times and are available free of charge for cancer patients and family members in various provinces throughout Canada. If an online group is of interest to you, register with us.
Registration
There are three steps to register for an Online Support Group:
- Contact us if you have questions and to find out what’s available in your province
- Complete a phone interview with the coordinator or group leader in your province
- Answer a set of web-based questionnaires prior to beginning the online group. You
will be required to complete these questionnaires again when the group ends.
Technical Requirements
To access the online groups you will need a computer with Internet access that operates on one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox or Safari. You will need an updated Adobe Flash Player – you can update your free Adobe Flash Player here
